Save the Polar Bear in Your Bedroom
Posted by Dave Gardner on Mar 10, 2010It’s been a great night. Romantic dinner for two. Fine organic wine. A little dancing in the living room. John Klemmer’s saxophone is putting you in the mood. It’s the right time of the night…for making love. Good thing you have the right tool in your hands to save the polar bear – an endangered species condom.

Scientists estimate that 25 years ago our population and consumption levels began to exceed Earth’s capacity to sustain us. Yet for years it’s been politically incorrect to suggest we humans ought to put a lid on our impulse to reproduce. So incorrect, in fact, that many environmental organizations have been unwilling to admit human population growth is a major contributor to the environmental devastation they’re fighting. Most groups settle for just slowing down the rate of destruction, for fear that campaigning for responsible population policies would limit membership or funding.
So I was impressed when the Center for Biological Diversity came up with Endangered Species Condoms (for use by humans!). Here is an environmental organization that dares to tell the truth about the causes of species extinction. I enthusiastically volunteered to pass out the condoms, and I’d like to share my adventures with you in this video.
There are two profound reasons we should all care deeply about this issue. One is, of course, that all species have a right to coexist with us on the planet. The second is that Earth’s ecosystems are our life support. We need a healthy, diverse abundance of plant and animal life in order to survive and thrive.
The Center’s endangered species condoms have been such a big hit, they’ve had to order another run. So it’s not too late. You can still volunteer to help spread the word about the correlation between unsustainable human population growth and the decline and extinction of many species.

Live long, Dave, the planet needs you!

Outstanding work and videos by Dave Gardner. Much like what you see on Jay Leno when he asks people simple questions and they don’t know who the first president of the US was– the level of illiteracy as to overpopulation in America and its accelerating ramifications astounds me. We are in for one very nasty ride if we fail to stabilize human population in America and around the world. FW

This is a refreshing, comedic, yet sobering piece about a topic I have worked on for decades. We need this media to educate and show that old ideas of procreation MUST be allied with the realities of a planet which is losing so much diversity with every tick of the population clock..I sense that we are all coming together in a single voice with the most important message we can send: OVERPOPULATION IS STEALING OUR FUTURE AND THE FUTURE OF ALL OTHER SPECIES many thanks Dave

For everyone who sees this compelling video, it shows you how many are out of touch and how many don’t care and how many do not understand their own dilemma. My wife laughed out loud at the humor. I did not laugh because I have seen the reality of overpopulation in my travels. I invite everyone to support Dave Gardner’s work because it only takes a few to change the course of history. Support him by sending his video to all your networks. Support him financially. It needs to be seen by Washington DC politicians, mayors, governors and TV producers. We’re in trouble if we allow the projected 100 million people added to America to manifest within 30 years. Join http://www.numbersusa.com and http://www.capsweb.org tell all your friends. Thanks Dave!

I mentioned John Klemmer’s music in my post because I’ve been a huge fan of Klemmer my entire adult life. So imagine my surprise to get an email from John Klemmer in response to this post. John asked me to post his comment here:
Well. I never dreamed my Music might save Polar Bears etc.! [:)] [However, my Music was never intended to be "sexual", but, "beautiful, moving & sensual", but, I have no control over what people "use" my Music for once it's released & "out there".] [:)]
A very clever idea on a very serious subject. I am always amazed at how many people have children without any thought put into it creating, yes, a higher population, and, creating many unwanted neurotic people with the cycle endlessly repeating.
My, very young, first trip to N.Y., as we were approaching J.F.K., I saw a lone bird struggling flying in this thick haze of “junk” in the air & a tear rolled down my cheek. Years later I was, for 4 months, in 11 different countries in French West Africa, for the State Dept. Being considered a tourist I was bombarded being offerred to purchase every imaginable “object” made out of some Animal. When I asked, in each country, at the U.S. Embassy, where I might “see some Animals”, they always said: “What
Animals?”
